Jennifer I Chapman, Children’s National Medical Center

This 5yo girl fell forward onto her outstretched hand and has forearm pain. There is no deformity, swelling, or severe pain, but she holds her arm to her side protectively. Your triage colleague orders Xrays:

Forearm AP view
Forearm Lateral view

The Orthopedic faculty will provide clinical pearls related to this case 1 week after posting.
Thank you!

After some years in Montreal (go Canadiens!), Chicago and Columbus, Ohio, Jennifer returned to the city in which she grew up. She has had the opportunity to travel to wonderful countries including China, Swaziland, and Armenia to both practice and teach pediatrics. She traces her love for international health to her father, on the one hand, whose work as a diplomat took her to Laos and France and to her mother, on the other, who raised her 3 children with a passionate belief in the oneness of all people.
