This week’s case highlights the importance of adjusting your clinical assessment and typical algorithms to the needs of each patient. Our patient with OI has a high risk of fractures with routine labs draws and care. We should be thoughtful about what we are most concerned about, how the patient appears on exam and the best mechanism to obtain a work-up (if necessary and has a intervention).
Patient was seen by trauma surgery and given that there did not seem to be any acute fractures on XR, CT and labs were deemed not necessary. Patient able to PO without significant pain and was discharged home.
