Ebola Virus Outcomes in Sierra Leone
In case you aren’t sick of reading/talking about Ebola yet, thought these 2 articles published recently in NEJM were interesting. One is an editorial discussing NJ and NY’s recent decision to impose a mandatory quarantine on health care workers who have returned from caring for patients with Ebola. As a Jersey girl, Chris Christie’s mandate was personal 🙂 Thankfully, they are starting to come to their senses, or at least succumbing to political pressure  for sanity:)
I was also recently asked by my daughter’s school if I could help them develop an “Ebola readiness plan” to which I responded, how about we work on getting all students vaccinated against the flu? (well, not in so many words, but pretty much…) and have been asked by patients about what they can do to protect themselves from EVD.
The 2nd article reviews some epi and clinical data from 106 patients diagnosed with EVD in Sierra Leone. This is perhaps the largest cohort of patient data on EVD to date.
Happy reading.
