A complete primary, secondary and tertiary exam may still be necessary in order to not miss potential injuries. This case also highlights the necessity of observation in pediatric trauma patients because clues such as abdominal pain and vomiting may be clues to underlying traumatic injuries.
Admitted to the PICU for q4h abdominal exams and H/H.His first Hgb was 8.9 and then 7.9 later in the day. He was transfused and then ultimately transferred to the Trauma service prior to being discharged after non-operative management.
