This weeks case highlights the challenges of clinically clearing a c-spine vs. radiographic findings. We discussed the utility of a c-collar in a toddler when you are not concerned about an unstable cervical spine injury. We also discussed the challenges of having CT information from an outside hospital in a patient you may not have decided to get CT imaging on.

Ultimately, the patient was admitted to trauma service. Got an MRI spine in the morning, which was negative. Did not put the collar back on at any point. Dental and ophtho saw the patient in the morning, no acute intervention and recommended outpatient follow up closer to home. The family was counseled to see pediatric urologist for inguinal testes. Urology not consulted.
